May 24: Dinosaur Bar-B-Que best in America

Camera crews from ABC’s ‘Good Morning America Weekend’ were in Syracuse Sunday morning to present the award for “Best Barbecue in America” to Dinosaur Bar-B-Que . The Syracuse landmark beat out three other establishments in an Internet voting poll to earn the designation.

Nearly 100 people, including restaurant staff, co-founder John Stage, co-founder of the Dinosaur, and Mike De Lucia, who submitted the entry, were on handfor the live broadcast, which aired at 7:42 a.m.

The Dinosaur opened at its Willow St. location in 1988 and has become a haven not only for great food, but also some of the best in local live entertainment. In 1998, the restaurant opened in Rochester, and in December 2004 the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que opened its latest restaurant in Harlem.

May 23: Brand New Sin releases new single

Brand New Sin has released the first single from their upcoming album, Distilled. “The Death of One Thing or Another” is available for free download on the band’s Web site.  You can also listen to it on their MySpace page. This is the first track featuring the band’s new lead singer, Kris Wiechmann, on vocals.

The track was recorded at Subcat Music Studios in Skaneateles. Distilled is set for release this summer.

May 22: New music from Fritz’s Polka Band

Fritz’s Polka Band is pleased to announced a new song, “Tribute,” written by Fred Scherz, the band’s senior accordion player. The song was written to honor Corporal John P. Sigsbee of Waterville who died in Iraq.

The band’s most recent CD, Reflections,  has been nominated for a SAMMY award for Best CD in the Miscellaneous category. The awards will be given out on June 5 during Taste of Syracuse on the main stage (Franklin and Washington Streets).
