Monday, Nov. 30: SSO at Auburn High School

It’s the last day of November and the holidays are right around the corner. After the big medium_ron-spigelman-casual.JPGThanksgiving weekend, you might want to relax with some live music tonight.

Here’s what’s going on:

  • The Syracuse Symphony presents a Holiday Pops concert at the Auburn High School Auditorium (250 Lake Ave, Auburn). Ron Spigelman conducts. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $30.
  • Charley Orlando and Colin Aberdeen are at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (246 W. Water St.).
  • Ryan Burdick performs at the Copper Top Tavern (905 N. Main St., North Syracuse) starting at 6 p.m.
  • DJ Smegie hosts karaoke at Singer’s Karaoke Club (1345 Milton Ave. ) at 9 p.m.
  • The weekly country music showcase starts at 6 p.m. at the Phoenix American Legion Country Music Showcase (Route 57, Phoenix)

Tuesday, November 17: Robin Williams at the Landmark

Comedian Robin Williams hits the ‘Cuse tonight, stopping off at the Landmark Theaterrobinwilliams.jpg (362 S Salina St.) for an 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $59.50, $79.50, and $89.50 at the Landmark box office, www.ticketmaster.com, or by phone charge (475-7980 or 800-745-3000).

Best know for his role as Mork in the TV series Mork and Mindy, Williams has been a consistent force on the stand-up circuit for 30 years. In addition, he has appeared in 69 films, earning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1997 for Good Will Hunting. He has won three Golden Globes, two Screen Actors Guild Awards, and three Grammy Awards.

Saturday, Nov. 7: Tragically Hip at the Landmark

Canadian rockers, The Tragically Hip perform tonight at the Landmark Theatre (362 S Salina St.). The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $37.50.

  • Disney kid-pop quartet The Imagination Movers are also at the Landmark today for two shows - 2 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $17.25, $27.25, and $37.25.
  • Cornmeal with guests, The Bridge, are at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.) for a 9 p.m. show. Tickets are $10.
  • The Paul Taylor Dance Company performs with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra at Mulroy Civic Center, Syracuse. Tickets range from $15 to $70.
  • Rick Della Ratta is at the Auburn Public Theatre (108 Genesee St., Auburn) for a benefit for the American Red Cross of Cayuga County. The show starts at 6 p.m. Admission is $60 and includes a cocktail party.
  • Mad Agnes is at the Oswego Music Hall (41 Lake St., Oswego). General admission is $14. Members pay $10.
  • The Glenn Miller Orchestra is at the State Theatre (107 W. State St., Ithaca) for an 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $26.50-$32.50. Call (607) 277-8283 for more information.
  • Maria Muldaur and her Garden of Joy Jug Band will be at the Castaways (413 Taughannock Blvd., Ithaca). The concert starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $24.
  • The New York Chamber Soloists will perform music for string and wind instruments by Mozart, Prokofiev and Brahms at Lincoln Middle School (1613 James St.). The concert starts at 8 p.m. and general admission is $20. Seniors pay $15 and student admission is $10.
  • Karen Savoca and Pete Heitzman headline at the Redhouse (201 S. West St.). The show starts at 8 p.m. General admission is $15. Students and seniors pay $12.

Saturday, September 19: Tipp Hill Music Festival and more

There’s almost too much going on today in and around the ‘Cuse!  Here are some highlights:

Tipp Hill Music Festival

The third edition of the Tipp Hill Music Festival takes place today at the Pass Arboretum at Burnet Park in Syracuse. Music starts at noon and runs through 7 p.m.

The lineup includes the Sim Redmond Band, John Cadley and the Lost Boys, Dusty Pas’cal, The Adam Fisher Group, Brian Francis, Frank and Burns, Independent Louis, Maka Rouge, Quigsy and The Bird , Smart Alec, The Causeway Giants, The Fabulous Ripcords, The Freeborn Men , Mere Mortals, The Tipphillbillies, The Tom Dooley Choraliers, and Z-Bones.

Admission is free. In case of rain, the event moves to the Burnet Park Ice Rink Pavilion.

Ski Caz Jam today

The 2009 Ski Caz Mountain Jam III takes place today at the Cazenovia Ski Club (5251 Rathbun Rd.). The Ryan Montbleau Band headlines the event, which will benefit the Two Smiles, One Hope Foundation.

Other bands in the lineup include Mecca Bodega, Dark Hollow, Gadabout, Jim Gavitt, and Family Farm .

The event starts at 3 p.m. and runs until 11 p.m. Tickets are $27.50 at the gate. Kids 12 and under are admitted free with an accompanying adult admission.

  • The Jordan Fall Festival is in full swing today on Beaver St. in Jordan. Today’s music lineup includes performances by The Flyin’ Column (2 p.m.) and The Jam Bones (6 p.m.). Admission is free.
  • Festa Italiano continues today at Montgomery and Washington Streets in front of Syracuse’s City Hall with performances by Jimmy Cavallo (1:30 p.m.), Augie and Dominick (3:15 p.m.), Dance Centre North (4:20 p.m.), Bill Ali and Kathy Santangelo (5:10 p.m.), East Coast Connection Band (6 p.m.), Dominic Mantuano (7:15 p.m.), and The Scintas (9 p.m.). Today’s events at the fair kick off with a Labor Day Parade, sponsored by Greater kwshepherd.jpgSyracuse Labor Council. The parade starts at Gate 6 at 11 a.m. and runs the length of the Fairgrounds to Chevy Court.

Sunday, Sept. 6: Blues in the Bay and more

Alexandria Bay’s annual Blues in the Bay Festival wraps up today with performances 090614_dbb.jpgby The Double Barrel Blues Band (1 p.m.), String of Pearls (3:30 p.m.), and Trevor Finley (6 p.m.).  The event takes place on James St. in the heart of Alex Bay.

Saturday, Sept. 5: Orange football kicks off with music on the quad

Syracuse University kicks off its 2009 football season today at noon at the Carrier 080314_hagan.jpgDome with a game against Minnesota under the helm of new head coach Doug Marrone. While it’s not at all musically related, it’s a pretty big deal here in the ‘Cuse and for fans all across the country. Can Marrone turn it around? Will the Orange finally have a winning season? We’ll soon find out!

To celebrate the start of the season, Isreal Hagan and Stroke will be performing at a tailgate party on the SU quad starting at 10 a.m. Wear your orange and come out and celebrate what could be the start of a great season!

Moe.down 10 kicks off tonight at Snow Ridge in Turin. Tonight’s music lineup includes The New Mastersound (4:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 10:30 p.m.), Okemah (6 p.m.), Method Man and Redman (9 p.m.), and moe. (11:15 p.m.).

Shotgun Sunday headlines the Bridgeport Firemen’s Field Days (427 Route 31, Bridgeport).  Their set starts at 7 p.m.

Carolyn Kelly and the Roosevelt Dean Band, and The Double Barrel Blues Band perform tonight at Blues in the Bay on James St. in Alexandria Bay. Music starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free.
