It’s Halloween, and that means celebrating at KRock’s Halloween Havoc at the Horticulture building on the grounds of the New York State Fair. It’s spooky and it’s kooky, and will include performances by Trapt, Papercut Massacre, Cry for the Blind, and After Midnight Project.
The event also features a “fully, terrifying, no joke, borderline psychotic haunted house” and a costume contest with over $2,000 in prizes!
Tickets are $21 at the door.
Note: Cry for the Blind is replacing Sugar Red Drive who were forced to cancel after members of the band were injured in an accident .

- Check out the Real Deal Halloween Freak Out with Kill the King (the music of the Masters of Reality) at the Landmark Theatre (362 S. Salina St.). The show features Dead Rose, Dracula Jones, and Professional Victims. It all starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15.
- October Nites, Eyan Cooughlin, Road To Recovery, Through These City Streets and T Six Bawn perform at Auburn Public Theatre (108 Oswego St., Auburn). The show starts at 5 p.m. and admission is $8.
- The Fabcats are on the SU Quad for a tailgate party prior to the Syracuse-Cincinnati game. Music starts at 9:30 a.m., the game is set for noon.
- Descending Angel, Ledyard, Elevator Death Squad, Cursed From Birth, and Our 11th Hour are at the Lost Horizon (5863 Thompson Road) starting at 9 p.m.

UMelt with Jeff Bujak headlines tonight at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.).
The show starts at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $12.

- Check 95X Halloween Massacre III with Under the Gun at the Landmark Theatre (362 S. Salina St.). The show also features The Reissues, 3 Inch Fury, and One Hard Crank. It all starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15.
- The Central New York Jazz Orchestra with featured guests Steve Brown and Joe Riposo perform at the Carrier Theater (Mulroy Civic Center) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $19.50, $24.50,and $27.50.
- Gary Frenay and Arty Lenin perform as part of the Hospice of the Finger Lakes Fundraiser at Auburn Public Theater (108 Genesee St., Auburn). The family-friendly event starts at 7 p.m. with children’s activities. Music starts at 9 p.m. There is a $15 admission charge ($5 for students with ID).

Silverstein headlines tonight at the Lost Horizon (5863 Thompson Rd.). I See Stars,
Madina Lake, The Word Alive, and I Am Committing a Sin are also set to perform.
Silverstein got its start in 2000 in Burlington, Ontario. The band’s name is a reference to children’s author Shel Silverstein.
The band is currently promoting their most recent CD, A Shipwreck in the Sand, which was released in January 2009.
Most recently, Silverstein toured with Norma Jean, Before Their Eyes, and blessthefall. They have also completed a UK tour opening for The Blackout. This summer, they played a couple of dates on the Warped Tour. They are also preparing to perform in Europe, opening for Billy Talent.
The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $15 at the door.

Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe is at The Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). NOMO
opens the show, which starts at 8 p.m.
Denson, who hails from San Diego, is best known as a funk and jazz saxophonist. He was a member of Lenny Kravitz’s band and has also recorded with the Blind Boys of Alabama, Dave Hollands, Jack DeJohnette, Stanton Moore, and Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman. In addition to Tiny Universe, Denson performs as part of the Karl Denson Trio.
Tickets are $25 at the door.

D.C. rockers Vertical Horizon make a stop in Syracuse tonight, performing at the
Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). Silent Fury opens the show, which starts at 7:30 p.m.
Vertical Horizon is promoting its most recent album, Burning the Days, which was released on September 22, 2009.
The band first album, Everything You Want, has been certified double platinum by the RIAA. The title song from the album was a chartbuster, becoming one of the most played songs in 2000. Another song from that album, “You’re a God,” was featured in the movie Bruce Almighty.
Tickets are $20.

The annual celebration of all things beer, Syracuse Beer Week , kicks off November 1 at the
1060 Restaurant in the Genesee Grande Hotel. Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster, Garret Oliver, author of The Brewmaster’s Table, will be on hand for a meet and greet.
Syracuse Beer Week takes place every night of the week in various venues in the ‘Cuse, with bars offering drink specials, tastings, music, and food.
We’ll be detailing the musical entertainment in our daily Club Dates section. In the meantime, here are some highlights of the week:
Monday - Wednesday: Free samples at the Middle Ages brewery

Jazz trumpeter Chris Botti, performs this afternoon at Goldstein Auditorium on the
Syracuse University campus. The concert, which is part of the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation series, starts at 2 p.m.
Botti has been nominated for two Grammy Awards and three of his albums have hit No. 1 on the Billboard jazz albums chart.
Tickets are $20 for the general public and $16 for foundation members. Students with $5 with ID.

Syracuse Day of Drumming : Workshop, Concert, African Feast
Jim Donovan of Rusted Root will be at the BallyBay Pub and Ballroom (550 Richmond
Ave.) for an all day celebration of African drumming. Donovan will conduct a “Day of Drumming Workshop” from 1 to 4 p.m. An African feast follows at 5:30 p.m.
At 7 p.m., Donovan presents “Night of 1000 Drums” with Drum the Ecstatic.
A full event pass is $80 at the door. Price for the workshop only is $45 at the door and the concert is $20 at the door.

R&B legend Stevie Wonder performs tonight at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino
Event Center in Verona, N.Y. Tickets are $85.
The show starts at 8 p.m.
Wonder, 59, has been recording since he was 11-years old. In his career, he’s won 22 Grammy awards, the most by any solo artist, and had 30 hit songs in the Billboard Top 10.
His most recent album, A Time to Love, was released in 2005. He is currently working on two albums, The Gospel Inspired By Lula and Through The Eyes Of Wonder, which will deal with his experiences as a blind man.

- Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad with Rubblebucket and Spiritual Rez performs at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are $13.
- Fritz’s Polka Band performs at 5 p.m. at the Norwich Pumpkin Festival. The event, which runs through Saturday, takes place in Norwich’s East and West Parks, and includes haunted houses, horse drawn wagon rides, pony rides, contests, clowns, food and craft vendors, various entertainers, fireworks, the YMCA Halloween Parade and plenty of food.
- Tanglefoot performs at the Kirkland Art Center (9 1/2 East Park Row, Clinton) at 8 p.m. Tickets are $18 and members pay $15.
