Wednesday, Sept. 30: Bela Fleck in Utica tonight

Banjo virtuoso, Bela Fleck performs at the Stanley Center for the Arts (261 Genesee St., 090926_belafleck.jpgUtica) as part of the Great Artist Series. Also featured are Zakir Hussain and Edgar Meyer.

Tuesday, Sept. 29: Classical music at Le Moyne College

Pianist Winston Choi (right) performs a program including Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” winstonchoi.jpgand Ravel’s “Gaspard de la Nuit” at the Panasci Family Chapel on the Le Moyne College campus.

The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and general admission is $15. Students are admitted free and seniors pay $10.

Robin Williams to perform Nov. 17 at the Landmark

Comedian Robin Williams brings his Weapons of Self Destruction tour to Syracuse’s robinwilliams.jpgLandmark Theatre (362  S. Salina St.) on November 17. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $89.50, $79.50 and $59.50.

The tour was originally set for last fall/winter, but was delayed after Williams underwent an emergency aeortic valve replacement.

Williams, who turned 58 in July, first came to the public’s attention as Mork from Ork on the TV series Happy Days. His character was the foundation for the successful spin-off, Mork and Mindy, which debuted in 1978 and ran until 1984.

Williams has had much success as a stand-up comedian. He is also a successful actor, appearing in nearly 80 films. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. He has also won three Golden Globes and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Monday, Sept. 28: ‘Avenue Q’ debuts at Crouse Hinds Theater

The smash hit Broadway musical, Avenue Q, comes to Syracuse tonight for a three day run. The 090928_avenueq.jpgshow, which is part of the Famous Artist Series, takes place at the Crouse Hinds Theater (411 Montgomery St.). Tickets are $30, $45, and $55.

  • 2 Hour Delay is at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que (246 W. Willow St.) at 9:30 p.m.
  • DJ Smegie hosts karaoke at Singer’s Karaoke Club (1345 Milton Ave.) starting at 9 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 27: Oktoberfest wraps up in Clinton Square

The 49th annual Oktoberfest wraps up today in Syracuse’s Clinton Square. The festival oktoberfest2.jpgfeatures great German food and drink,  music and dance, and much more. It all starts at noon and admission is free.

Saturday’s lineup includes the Liverpool Community Band and Syracuse Liederverein Mixed Chorus (noon), Die Gehrenberg Spatzen, Enzian Bavarian Band and Dancers, and talent contest (2:30 p.m.), Raffle drawing and closing ceremonies (6 p.m.).

Fab Five to perform at Buddy Walk

The 11th annual Buddy Walk to benefit the Down Syndrome Association of Central New York (DSACNY) takes place today at Long Branch Park (Onondaga Lake Park, Liverpool).  Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. and the walk starts at 10:30 a.m.

Following the walk, there will be a free picnic, children’s games and prizes, and entertainment by The Fab Five . This may be the last chance you get to see this great band perform in an outdoor concert so come on out and support this great cause.

Music at Critz Farm

The Dave Novak Trio with Gary Frenay provides musical entertainment at the Fall Festival at Critz Farms (3232 Rippleton Rd., New Woodstock). Music starts at 1 p.m. Admission is $7.

Two Fritz’s Polka Band shows today

Fritz’s Polka Band is in Brookfield for the annual Wheel Days celebration at 1 p.m. and then travels back home to perform at 3 p.m. for Verona-Sherill Community Day.

  • The Adanfo African Drummers, Samba Laranja, and the OCC Percussion Ensemble present a free concert at the Thornden Park Amphitheater starting at 4 p.m.
  • Maryna Mazhukhova performs at De Witt Community Church (600 Erie Blvd., De Witt). The concert starts at 3 p.m. and admission is free.
  • Franc A’Ambrosio performs music from Broadway shows at the Stanley Theater (261 Genesee St., Utica). The show starts at 4 p.m. and tickets range from $15 to $35.
  • Musicians from the New York State Old Tyme Fiddlers’ Association perform a the North American Fiddlers’ Hall of Fame and Museum (1121 Comins Road, Osceola) starting at noon. Admission is free.

  • The Marco Benevento Trio and Juice are at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). Music starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $13.
  • SlowBurn performs at 8 p.m. at the Oswego Music Hall (McCrobie Civic Center, 41 Lake St., Oswego) General admission is $14. Members pay $10 and there is special pricing for children.
  • Pianist Joyce Yang with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra  at the Crouse-Hinds Theater.  Yang will perform the solo for Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Joan Tower’s “Made in America” and Aaron Copland’s Symphony No. 3 will also be on the program. The concert starts at 8 p.m.  Tickets range from $17 to $70.

  • Atomic Punks - Van Halen Tribute are at Turning Stone Resort and Casino. Tickets are $15, $20 and $25.
  • The Levon Helm Band performs at 8 p.m. at the Stanley Center for the Arts  (259-261 Genesee St., Utica). Steely Dan’s Donald Fagen opens the show. Tickets are $25-$75.
  • The Lost Boys kicks off this season of the Steeple Coffeehouse (310 E. Genesee St., Fayetteville) at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
  • The Muses perform at the Fulton Public Library (160 S. First St., Fulton) at 2 p.m. There is no admission charge.
  • Erica Wheeler is at Baltimore Woods Nature Center (4007 Bishop Hill Rd., Marcellus) for a workshop at 2:30 p.m. She will perform a concert at 6 p.m. Admission to the concert is free and the price for the workshop is $25.
  • Charlotte Blake Alston performs for children at 4 p.m. at the Earlville Opera House (22 E. Main St., Earlville). Admission is free.
  • Laurie Berkner performs a children’s program at 11 a.m. at the State Theatre (107 W. State St., Ithaca). Admission is $25 for adults and $15 for children.

Friday, Sept. 25: Celebration of the Beatles’ ‘Abbey Road’ at the Westcott Theater

The Timothy Wood Band performs at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.) in abbeyroad.jpgcelebration of the 40th anniversary of what some believe to be the Beatles’ greatest album, Abbey Road.

The band will perform a set of their original music followed by all the songs on the album.

Tickets are $10. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 9 p.m.

The Brubeck Jazz Institute Quintet will perform at 11 p.m. at the Lincklaen House.
  • The Shen Wei Dance Arts  performs Re- (I, II, III) at the Landmark Theatre (362 S. Salina St.). The show starts at 7 p.m. and general admission tickets are $10 ($5 for SU students with ID, seniors, and children 16 and under).
  • The Society for New Music presents a concert of new music at Storer Auditorium on the Onondaga Community College campus at 11:15 a.m. Admission is free.
  • The Syracuse Gay and Lesbian Chorus performs a program entitled Stonewall Revisited at Storer Auditorium on the Onondaga Community College campus at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
  • Rusted Root is at Smith Opera House (82 Seneca St., Geneva) for an 8 p.m. show. Tickets are $25.
  • Folksinger Judy Collins performs at the Clinton Performing Arts Center (Chenango Ave., Clinton) at 8 p.m.  General admission is $40 and members pay $35.

Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gregg Allman booked at Turning Stone

Southern rock fans will have to choose between two legendary performers November lynyrdskynyrd.jpg22 as Lynyrd Skynyrd and Gregg Allman take the stage at Turning Stone Resort and Casino. The Skynyrd band performs at the Event Center and Allman will be at the Showroom.

Tickets for the Skynyrd show go on sale October 10 at the Event Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and by phone charge at 877-833-7469.

Skynyrd tickets are $65 (inner circle seats available for $85 and $100). Tickets for the Gregg Allman show go on sale Saturday, September 26 at $35.

Thursday, Sept. 24: Big Break semis continue at the Westcott Theater

Four bands perform tonight in a semifinal round of The Big Break, a talent combigbreak.jpgpetition going on at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). Tonight’s bands include The Brethren (7 p.m.), Gracious Sakes Alive (8 p.m.), Feeding Affliction (9 p.m.), and Sophistafunk (10 p.m.).

Bands are judged not only on their performances, but also on their fans’ support. So, if you dig any one of these bands, get out and show your love! Doors open at 6 p.m.
