Tuesday, September 1: Music at the New York State Fair

The great New York State Fair is up and running in Syracuse, and along with the acts shanana.jpgscheduled for the Mohegan Sun Grandstand, there are lots of chances to catch free music at various venues around the fairgrounds.

Tuesday’s Best Bet:  Sha Na Na at Chevy Court.

Nice side note, two members of Sha Na Na will visit residents of St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center at 4:30 p.m. to sing and participate in the facility’s ’50s party. Read more here .

Monday, August 31:Nancy Kelly at the NYS Fair today

The New York State Fair keeps on keepin’ on, bringing lots of live music in all genres.  kelly-leigh.jpgChevy Court will be swinging today as Nancy Kelly and Ronnie Leigh perform with the CNY Jazz Orchestra. The show starts at 2 p.m. and is free with fair admission. Come on out and support these talented local performers.

Gary Frenay & Arty Lenin are at The Retreat (First St., Liverpool) at 7 p.m. and John Lerner hosts an open mike at Meghan MacMurphy’s (7990 Oswego Rd., Liverpool) starting at 6 p.m.

Saturday, August 29: Mountain Music Meltdown and more

The legendary Leon Russell headlines today’s Mountain Music Meltdown at Spencer Boat music-meltdown.jpgWorks (U.S. Route 3) in Saranac Lake. Syracuse’s own Los Blancos performs, along with Hot Day at the Zoo, Chaz De Paolo, Lucid, Sabatical, Raisin Head, Roy Hurd, Joe Costa and Kikazaru.

Friday, August 28: Grand Funk Railroad reunion at the Fair

Live music in the ‘Cuse is focused on the State Fairgrounds this week, and while country grandfunk.jpgmusic lovers can catch Kenny Chesney at the Mohegan Sun Grandstand, fans of old school rock will not want to miss the 40th Anniversary Tour of Grand Funk Railroad .

Don Brewer, Mel Schacher, Bruce Hulick, Tim Cushion and Max Carl are back on the road and will hit Chevy Court at 8 p.m. The show is free with paid admission to the fair.

Thursday, August 27: 3 Inch Fury at Market Block Party and more

The weekend starts on Thursday in the ‘Cuse with the weekl080701_3inchfury1.jpgy Market Block Party the Central New York Regional Market (Park St.). This week’s entertainment lineup includes 3 Inch Fury, Dead Rose, and Krooked Cain.

Music starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free. Get on down and mix and mingle, enjoy some great music, food, and your favorite beverage.

  • Thunder Canyon performs at tonight’s Bike Night at Performance Harley Davidson (807 N. Geddes St.). The party starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. Admission is free.
