Woodstock 2009 celebrates festival’s 40th anniversary

If you didn’t make it to Woodstock in 1969 or even if you weren’t born then, you can celebrate the 40th anniversary of this historic event on August 15 as the Heroes of Woodstock tour stops at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on the original site of the 1969 event at Max Yasgur’s farm.

The concert features many performers who were at the event 40 years ago, including Levon Helm (of The Band), Jefferson Starship, Ten Years After, Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company (performing Janis Joplin’s set), Mountain, Tom Constanten, and Country Joe McDonald.

Also set to perform are Melanie, John Sebastian, and Richie Havens.Tickets are $69, $40, and &19.79. Gates open at 2 p.m. and the celebration begins at 5 p.m.

Tuesday, July 21: That 70s Band at the zoo and more

The Sunset Safari Music Series continues at Syracuse’s Rosamondsunset-safari.jpg Gifford Zoo (1 Conservatory Place). The event, which starts at 5:30 p.m., includes live music, a cash bar, a gourmet picnic, dinner, and a chance to watch the sunset at the zoo.

This week, music is provided by That 70s Band.  Tickets are $8 at the gates. Click here for menus and pricing on food.

The CW6 Big Break Summer Battle of the Band continues at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.) tonight at 6.  The first round in the competition to find the best band in Central New York will run Monday and Tuesday nights through August 4.

Tonight’s bands include Wizwick, Wishpool, Heathcliff, Sonic Kings, and Feeding Affliction. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is $10.

Also tonight…

The Flyin’ Column performs tonight at Baldwinsville’s Papermill Island (Off Route 48 by Lock 24) . Music starts at 6:30 p.m.

Grupo Pagan performs at Upper Onondaga Park (Clairmont Ave. and Crossett St.) at 7 p.m. as part of the Pops in the Park concert series. Bring a chair, the kids and a picnic dinner. Admission is free.

The Toby Franklin Band is at the Ernest N. Casale Amphitheatre in Clay Park Central (Wetzel Rd.). The concert starts at 6:30 p.m. and admission is free.

Fritz’s Polka Band performs at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack, Farmingdale.

George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic are at the Showroom at Turning Stone Resort and Casino. The show starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $25, $30, and $40.
