Lineup set for 2009 Syracuse Jazz Fest

The lineup has been set for the 27th annual Syracuse Jazz Fest, which takes place June 26 and 27 on the Onondaga Community College campus. Admission is free, but there is a $5 fee to park on campus.

Here’s this year’s performance schedule:

Friday, June 26

Louis H. Everding Main Stage

  • 4 p.m.: Westhill High School Jazz Ensemble
  • 5 p.m.: The John Tropea Band
  • 6:30 p.m.: The Randy Brecker / Bill Evans Soulbop Band with Randy Brecker, Bill Evans, Rodney Holmes, Katreese Barnes, Frank Gravis, and Mitch Stein
  • 8  p.m.: The West Coast / East Coast Dream Band with David Garfield, Alex Ligertwood, Randy Brecker, Larry Klimas, Doug Bossi, Lenny Castro, Steve Ferrone, and Will Lee
  • 9:30 p.m.: Spyro Gyra with Jay Beckenstein, Tom Schuman, Julio Fernandez, Scott Ambush, and Bonny B
  • 11:20 p.m.: Late Night Jam for Hiram featuring the members of Soulbob, Creatchy and The Cats, Spyro Gyra, and The John Tropea Band.

Scholastic Stage

  • 3:30 p.m.: Henninger High School Jazz Ensemble
  • 4:30 p.m.: Syracuse Department of Parks and Recreation Stan Colella All-Star Band
  • 6 p.m.: Paul V. Moore High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble
  • 7:30 p.m.: Oswego High School Jazz Ensemble
  • 9 p.m.: West Genesee High School Jazz Band

Master class at the Whitney Applied Technology Center

  • 1 p.m.: Will Lee, bass, room 102/103
  • 2 p.m.: Bill Evans, saxophone, room 153 (TV studio)
  • 3 p.m.: Randy Brecker, trumpet, room 102/103

Saturday June 27

  • 4 p.m.: Manlius-Pebble Hill Jazz Combo
  • 5 p.m.: Al Chez and The Brothers of Funk Big Band
  • 6:30 p.m.: The Steelheads with special guest Andy Narell
  • 8 p.m.: The David Garfield Band with David Garfield, Alex Ligertwood, Larry Klimas, Doug Bossi, Lenny Castro, Steve Ferrone, and Ernest Tibbs
  • 9:30 p.m.: Kenny G
  • 11 p.m.: Price Chopper fireworks

  • 4:30 p.m.: Corcoran High School Jazz Ensemble

Also tonight…

Umphrey’s McGee will play ‘An evening with Umphrey’s McGee’ show at Papermill Island (Baldwinsville). Tickets are $26. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the music will start at 7 p.m.

Taste of Utica continues today at Hanna Park in Utica. Today’s entertainment lineup includes Fritz’s Polka Band (noon), Wooden Spoon (1:10 p.m.), Dashboard Nixon (2:20 p.m.), Classified (3:50 p.m.), Fulton Chain Gang (5:50 p.m.), Showtime (7:20 p.m.), and The Bomb (9:20 p.m.).

Wednesday, June 17: Molly Hatchet at Inner Harbor

090616_mollyhatchet.jpgIt’s another big night for live music in the ‘Cuse as Molly Hatchet headlines the Hump Day Concert series event at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor. The Tim Herron Corporation and The Tipphillbillies will open for Molly Hatchet who are expected to take the stage around 9 p.m.

The Marshall Tucker Band was originally scheduled to perform tonight, but their appearance has been postponed due to the sudden death of Doug Gray, the band’s singer’s, wife. The band has rescheduled their show for August 12.

Music starts at 4:30 p.m. and admission is free. Food and beverages will be on sale during the evening.

Also tonight…

The Liverpool is the Place concert series is in full swing at Johnson Park in the village. Tonight’s featured band is the Elephant Shoes. The concert starts at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Bring a lawn chair and a cooler, and kick back to enjoy some great music.

Down the road apiece, The Fray, Jack’s Mannequin, and Richard Swift are at Darien Lake Performing Arts Center.

Fritz’s Polka Band performs at Colonial Square in North Utica at 6 p.m. Admission is free.
