Monday, May 25: Memorial Day in CNY

There’s plenty to do today in and around the ‘Cuse to celebrate Memorial Day. Here’s a rundown of some of the events:090524_flags.jpg

Events in Syracuse start at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and donuts at the Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (102 Nichols Ave.), followed by a ceremony and flag raising at 8:30 a.m. The parade starts from the post at 9 a.m. and proceeds up James St. to the monument at the intersection of James and Grant Blvd.

After the parade, the Palace Theatre will show cartoons. Eastwood businesses have teamed up with the Legion for a bicycle giveaway where one boy and one girl will win a new bike.

In Jordan, festivities include a Parade of Bands starting at the Jordan Fire Department at 3:05 p.m. Following the parade, there will be a Massing of the Bagpipes on North Main St.

ScottyTrudell and 4 on the Floor are at Pfohl’s Beachouse (301 Park Ave., Sylvan Beach) at 2 p.m. and there’s karaoke with DJ Smegie at Singer’s Karaoke Club (1345 Milton Ave.) at 9 p.m.

The Phoenix American Legion Post 418 (9 Oswego St., Phoenix) presents a Country Music Showcase at 6 p.m.

Parades

  • Camillus (9:30 a.m.): Starts at Maple Drive and Union Street and ends at the Senior Center on First Street
  • Cicero (9 a.m.): Starts at the Cicero Cemetery on Route 11 to the James Harvey Spire American Legion Post 787 on Route 31
  • East Syracuse (9 a.m.): Starts at 9 a.m. Monday on Route 290 and proceeds down Manlius Street to the park at Yates Street
  • Elbridge (11 a.m.): Starts at Elbridge Elementary School (130 East Main St.) to Mount Pleasant Cemetery
  • Fayetteville (9 a.m.): Starts at the corner of East Genesee and Highbridge streets, and goes down East Genesee to Fayetteville-Manlius St. to Beard Park
  • Fabius (10:30 a.m.): Starts on Main Street
  • Jamesville (11 a.m.): Starts on Apulia Road and ends at Jamesville Elementary School. There will be an open house at the new fire station starting at 12:30 p.m.
  • Liverpool (9 a.m.): Begins at Johnson Park to the Liverpool Cemetery and back.
  • LaFayette (9 a.m.): Begins at the Alliance Church, Route 20 and LaFayette Road and ends at the cemetery with a ceremony. There will also be a chicken dinner at VFW Post 1955 starting at 9:30 a.m.
  • Lyncourt (9 a.m.): Begins at Lyncourt Firehouse and ends at Lyncourt School
  • Marcellus (10 a.m.): Begins at North Street and ends at the Veterans Monument in front of Methodist Church
  • Manlius (11 a.m): Begins at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Academy Street and ends at Manlius Village Centre with a ceremony. There will be a reception at the American Legion following the ceremony.
  • Mattydale (11 a.m.) Begins at the Mattydale American Legion and ends at the monument at the center of Mattydale
  • Minoa (11 a.m.): Begins at Lewis Park in Minoa and ends at the municipal building on North Main Street
  • North Syracuse (9 a.m.): Begins at Lonergan Park and ends at Veterans Memorial Park with a ceremony. There will be an open house at VFW Post 7290 (105 Maxwell St.) following the ceremony.
  • Skaneateles (9 a.m.):  Begins at Robert Hydon American Legion and ends at Clift Park
  • Syracuse (9 a.m.):  Begins at Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (102 Nichols Ave.) and ends at the monument at James Street and Grant Blvd.
  • Solvay (9:30 a.m.) Begins at Boyd Avenue and Second Street and ends at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Woods Road Park
  • Tully (11 a.m.): Begins at the Tully Elementary School
