It’s the last day of May and time to get outside and celebrate. Here’s what’s going on:
Woofstock, a festival to benefit the CNY Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) will take place at Syracuse’s Inner Harbor. Music starts at 1 p.m.
Featured bands include Turnip Stampede (1 p.m.), Merit (2:15 p.m.), Dead Rose (3:30 p.m.), Under the Gun (4:45 p.m.), 3 Inch Fury (6:15 p.m.), The Reissues (7:45 p.m.), and Los Blancos (9 p.m.).
Admission is $5. Food and beverages will be available. Pets are welcome on leashes for the afternoon events. Get out and support the local SPCA and enjoy some of the best CNY bands.
Also today, Christian rocker, Jim Yackel, performs at 9:30 a.m. at United Church of Auburn (77 Metcalf Drive, Auburn). Admission is free.

There’s something for every musical taste this last Saturday in May. Here’s what’s going on:
Syracuse rock musician and promoter Scott Dixon has organized a benefit for Draven Harris, the 7-month-old boy who was left behind after his father murdered his mother Angela in April.
The show, which features Closer Still, From the Ashes, Cicada, Brand New Sin, The Hideout, and The Sweathogs, starts at 7 p.m. at the Lost Horizon (5853 Thompson Rd.). Tickets are $10.
Also tonight
Former Paul McCartney and Wings’ guitar player, Laurence Juber, performs with Loren Barrigar at May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society (3800 E. Genesee St.) Admission is $25. The show starts at 8 p.m.
Something About LuLu featuring former Syracusan Patty Jackson is at the First Unitarian Universalist Society (109 Waring Rd.) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $10 to $25.
The Syracuse Chorale presents “Seasons of Love” at Blessed Sacrament School (3127 James St.) There are two shows, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Admission is $15.
Faith in the Fallen, Zero Hour, Forbidden Dawn, Cry to the Blind, and Heathcliff compete in a battle of the bands at Monirae’s (688 Route 10, Pennellville). The event starts at 9 p.m.

New York City percussive band, Mecca Bodega, performs at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.). Doors open at 8 p.m. the show starts at 9 p.m

The band features djembe master Dr. Djobi and French Horn player/keyboardist Alex Brofsky, along with multi-instrumentalist Chris Merwin.
Charley Orlando is this week’s featured performer at Jazz Central’s Words and Music Songwriter Showcase. The event starts at 7:30 at the cafe (441 E. Washington St.) and admission is $10.
Down the road at Summer Stage at Tags (Route 352, Big Flats), Ratt, Slaughter, and Kip Winger perform in a show that starts at 6:30 p.m. General admission is $20 and reserved seats are $33.

The weekend starts on Thursday in the ‘Cuse with the weekly
Market Block Party at the Central New York Regional Market (Park St.). This week’s entertainment lineup includes Dead Rose and Whiskey Mae. Music starts at 6 p.m. and admission is free. Get on down and mix and mingle, enjoy some great music, food, and your favorite beverage.
Also tonight…
Morris and the Hepcats perform at this week’s Bike Night at Performance Harley Davidson (807 N. Geddes St.). The party starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. Catering is provided by the Limp Lizard, and along with music and food, there will be prizes, a burnout contest, and more. Admission is free.
Another Breath, Trap Them , Victims and others are at the Westcott Community Center (826 Euclid Avenue) for an 8 p.m. show. Call (315) 478-8634 for ticket information.

It’s the Tuesday after a long weekend, and if you’re feeling down

Celebrate Dinosaur Bar-B-Que’s recent victory in Good Morning America’s “Best Barbecue in America” contest with some kickin’ live music from Just Joe. The show starts at 10 p.m. at the now world-famous restaurant at 246 W. Willow St.
Dave Hawthorn is at Dominick’s Sports Tavern (234 E. Albany St., Oswego) at 6 p.m. and Michael Crissan is at the Limp Lizard Lounge (4628 Onondaga Blvd.) at 7 p.m.
If karaoke is your thing, check out Singer’s Karaoke Club (1345 Milton Ave.) where DJ Streets hosts starting at 9 p.m. There’s also karaoke at Mac’s Bad Art Bar (1345 Milton Ave.) at 10 p.m. and ShamROCKS! Rock and Roll Irish Pub (109 E. Taft Rd., North Syracuse) at 9 p.m.

There’s plenty to do today in and around the ‘Cuse to celebrate Memorial Day. Here’s a rundown of some of the events:
Events in Syracuse start at 7:30 a.m. with coffee and donuts at the Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (102 Nichols Ave.), followed by a ceremony and flag raising at 8:30 a.m. The parade starts from the post at 9 a.m. and proceeds up James St. to the monument at the intersection of James and Grant Blvd.
After the parade, the Palace Theatre will show cartoons. Eastwood businesses have teamed up with the Legion for a bicycle giveaway where one boy and one girl will win a new bike.
In Jordan, festivities include a Parade of Bands starting at the Jordan Fire Department at 3:05 p.m. Following the parade, there will be a Massing of the Bagpipes on North Main St.
ScottyTrudell and 4 on the Floor are at Pfohl’s Beachouse (301 Park Ave., Sylvan Beach) at 2 p.m. and there’s karaoke with DJ Smegie at Singer’s Karaoke Club (1345 Milton Ave.) at 9 p.m.
The Phoenix American Legion Post 418 (9 Oswego St., Phoenix) presents a Country Music Showcase at 6 p.m.
Parades
- Camillus (9:30 a.m.): Starts at Maple Drive and Union Street and ends at the Senior Center on First Street
- Cicero (9 a.m.): Starts at the Cicero Cemetery on Route 11 to the James Harvey Spire American Legion Post 787 on Route 31
- East Syracuse (9 a.m.): Starts at 9 a.m. Monday on Route 290 and proceeds down Manlius Street to the park at Yates Street
- Elbridge (11 a.m.): Starts at Elbridge Elementary School (130 East Main St.) to Mount Pleasant Cemetery
- Fayetteville (9 a.m.): Starts at the corner of East Genesee and Highbridge streets, and goes down East Genesee to Fayetteville-Manlius St. to Beard Park
- Fabius (10:30 a.m.): Starts on Main Street
- Jamesville (11 a.m.): Starts on Apulia Road and ends at Jamesville Elementary School. There will be an open house at the new fire station starting at 12:30 p.m.
- Liverpool (9 a.m.): Begins at Johnson Park to the Liverpool Cemetery and back.
- LaFayette (9 a.m.): Begins at the Alliance Church, Route 20 and LaFayette Road and ends at the cemetery with a ceremony. There will also be a chicken dinner at VFW Post 1955 starting at 9:30 a.m.
- Lyncourt (9 a.m.): Begins at Lyncourt Firehouse and ends at Lyncourt School
- Marcellus (10 a.m.): Begins at North Street and ends at the Veterans Monument in front of Methodist Church
- Manlius (11 a.m): Begins at St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Academy Street and ends at Manlius Village Centre with a ceremony. There will be a reception at the American Legion following the ceremony.
- Mattydale (11 a.m.) Begins at the Mattydale American Legion and ends at the monument at the center of Mattydale
- Minoa (11 a.m.): Begins at Lewis Park in Minoa and ends at the municipal building on North Main Street
- North Syracuse (9 a.m.): Begins at Lonergan Park and ends at Veterans Memorial Park with a ceremony. There will be an open house at VFW Post 7290 (105 Maxwell St.) following the ceremony.
- Skaneateles (9 a.m.): Begins at Robert Hydon American Legion and ends at Clift Park
- Syracuse (9 a.m.): Begins at Eastwood American Legion Post 1276 (102 Nichols Ave.) and ends at the monument at James Street and Grant Blvd.
- Solvay (9:30 a.m.) Begins at Boyd Avenue and Second Street and ends at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Woods Road Park
- Tully (11 a.m.): Begins at the Tully Elementary School

The first major event of the summer, TK99’s Blues, Brews, and BBQ , takes place today at Chevrolet Court at the NYS Fairgrounds. It all starts at noon and tickets are $25 at the gate.
This year’s celebration of all things blues includes performances by Jimmy Wolf (12:30 p.m.), John Lee Hooker, Jr. (2:30 p.m.), Roomful of Blues (4:00 p.m.), Edgar Winter (5:30 p.m.), The Radiators (7:00 p.m.), and Blind Boys of Alabama (8:45 p.m.).
Food will be provided by Limp Lizard Lounge and Dinosaur Bar-B-Que.
Also today…
Straylight Run, Lovedrug, and Good Old War are at the Westcott Theater (524 Westcott St.) for some rock ‘n roll. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m.
Fulton Chain Gang is at Kayuta Lake Campground (10892 Camp Ground Rd., Forestport) for a show starting at noon.
The Stan Colella Orchestra performs a Memorial Day concert at 3 p.m. at the Palace Theatre (2384 James St.). The event, which is sponsored by Syracuse Parks and Recreation Department, United HealthCare and the Palace Theatre, is free.
