Lineup set for 2009 Syracuse Jazz Fest

The lineup for this summer’s 2009 Syracuse Jazz Fest has been revealed. In a press conference at the Dinosaur Bar-B-Que Monday morning, the festival’s founder and executive director Frank Malfitano revealed that Spyro G090316_spyrogyra.jpgyra , Creatchy and The Cats, and the Randy Brecker/Bill Evans Soulbop Band have committed to perform along with previously announced headliner Kenny G.

Spyro Gyra (right) will be the June 26 headliner with Kenny G. topping the bill for June 27. Creatchy and The Cats are performing both days and the Randy Brecker/Bill Evans Soulbop Band will be onstage June 26.

Malfitano also shared his concern about this summer’s festival’s finances. So far, $200,000 been raised towards the overall budget of $280,000. If the additional $80,000 cannot be raised within the next few weeks, Malfitano warned cuts might be necessary.

Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney, who also attended the press conference, said that she was prepared to assist in raising additional funding.  Last summer, the event was trimmed from three days to two.

The free festival takes place on the campus of Onondaga Community College.
